Map the Complete Swing Before Choosing the Glass

Hinged bath screens let one or more sections move around a hinge or pivot point, but the permitted direction and angle vary by model. The glass may swing over the bath, into the room or both ways; it may also stop well before it reaches the wall. Mark the full movement against taps, furniture, shelves and sloping ceilings before comparing decorative details. Convenient access depends on a clear operating arc, not simply on the presence of a hinge.

Plot inward and outward clearance

Use the stated opening angle and hinge position to trace where the panel will travel. Check clearance from the tap spout, shower controls, basin, furniture, towel fittings and walls. A hinged bath screen should never rely on forcing the glass past an obstruction to reach a useful position.

Preserve the access you need

Consider how far the glass must move for stepping into the bath, reaching taps, helping children and cleaning. A wide panel can offer useful shower coverage but needs more room to swing. If the design has several sections, confirm which section moves and how the panels rest when opened.

Check the rim through the full movement

The lower seal must meet the intended section of bath rim when the screen returns to its showering position. Confirm that the rim is sufficiently level and supportive, then check how the seal passes nearby fittings as the panel moves. Use the bath and screen drawings rather than relying on photographs.

Single, extended and multi-section designs

A hinged bath shower screen can use one moving panel, combine a stationary section with a moving one or include several articulated sections. These layouts affect total width, folded position and everyday access. Confirm the complete configuration instead of assuming every panel attached to a hinge operates alike.

Hinge, pivot and opening angle

Product names may refer to a pivot bath screen or a hinged mechanism. Check where the glass rotates, whether movement is one-way or two-way and the permitted angle. Do not infer a full half-turn or wall-folding position unless the technical specification states it.

Glass, wall support and supplied parts

Review the safety-glass specification and thickness, panel weight, wall profile, adjustment, hinges, seals, braces and fixings. A hinged glass bath screen needs a suitable fixing surface for the installed load. Confirm the contents and wall requirements for the individual model before work begins.

Opening direction, reversibility, compatibility, splash coverage and care

Do hinged panels always open both ways?

No. Some swing inward and outward, while others move in one direction or through a limited angle. Check the stated operation and allow clearance across the complete permitted movement rather than testing the hinge against an obstruction after installation.

Are hinged bath screens reversible?

Some are, but not every model can be installed on either wall. Confirm the mounting side, hinge position, lower seal and any handed components from the installation drawing. The outline of the glass alone does not establish reversibility.

Will a hinged panel contain all shower spray?

Not necessarily. Coverage depends on the complete width and height, shower position, spray direction, seals and the panel being returned to its correct showering position. Compare the drawing for each hinged over-bath shower screen before ordering.

Can the screen fold flat against the wall?

Only when the hinge specification and room layout allow it. The panel may have a restricted angle, and taps, seals, handles or other fittings can stop the glass earlier. Never force it beyond the manufacturer’s stated movement. If the room has no safe swing clearance, compare fixed bath screens that stay in position.

Can one fit any bath with a flat rim?

No. Bath profile, mounting side, wall adjustment, lower seal, dimensions and model compatibility still matter. If the bath requires a different operation or model-specific profile, browse all bath screens.

How should the hinges be maintained?

Keep the glass, seals and hinge area clean with suitable non-abrasive products, removing residue without forcing the mechanism. Tightening, adjustment and lubrication requirements vary, so follow the manufacturer’s care instructions and do not apply oils or cleaners that could damage seals or plated parts.

Let the moving glass have visual and physical breathing room. Keep shelves and accessories outside its sweep, then coordinate the visible hinge hardware with nearby fittings without assuming similarly named finishes will match exactly.
