A useful step up from the smallest cloakroom units, 500mm floor standing vanity units give more comfortable basin space while staying compact. They fit well in small bathrooms, en-suites and downstairs toilets where a full-size vanity would feel too large. The extra width can make handwashing easier and provide more storage below for everyday bathroom items. Choose a 500mm floor standing bathroom vanity unit if you want better usability without giving up too much floor area.

TAILS’ SIZE AND SUPPORT CHECK

Fit useful storage into a compact width

A 500mm floor-standing vanity unit combines a space-conscious cabinet width with floor-supported basin storage. It suits smaller bathrooms, cloakrooms and en-suites where a wider unit would restrict movement, while offering more furniture presence and capacity than many very narrow alternatives. Compare the precise width, depth and basin arrangement before purchasing.

A 500mm Floor-Standing Bathroom Vanity Suits You If

Your available width is limited

A 500mm-wide floor-standing vanity can fit into a compact basin position while still providing enclosed storage beneath. Check the exact finished width and surrounding clearance, particularly where the unit sits beside a toilet, bath or doorway.

You prefer floor-supported furniture

The cabinet stands on the floor rather than creating the floating appearance of a wall-hung unit. This gives the basin area greater visual weight, although the selected model may still require securing to the wall for stability.

Compact concealed storage is useful

A 500mm bathroom vanity unit can keep toiletries and cleaning products hidden within a relatively small footprint. When buying, compare drawer or cupboard layouts carefully because plumbing, traps and internal dividers affect the storage space available.

Another Vanity Size or Format May Suit You Better If

You need greater storage capacity

A wider vanity may provide larger drawers, broader cupboards and more surface area around the basin. Consider another size when the room can accommodate it and everyday storage matters more than preserving clearance beside nearby fittings.

Floor space should remain visible

A floor-standing cabinet occupies the full area beneath the basin and creates a more substantial furniture block. A 500mm wall-hung vanity may suit you better when uninterrupted flooring and a lighter, raised appearance are priorities.

The unit depth restricts movement

The 500mm measurement normally refers to width rather than projection. A shallower vanity or another basin format may be more appropriate where the opposite wall, toilet or doorway leaves insufficient space in front of the cabinet.

500mm Floor-Standing Vanity Unit FAQs

Exact sizing, basin contents and floor-supported installation explained

  • Is a 500mm vanity exactly 500mm wide?

Not always. The advertised measurement may be nominal, so check the individual technical drawing for the precise cabinet and basin width. This is important when the unit must fit between walls, furniture or sanitaryware.

  • Is the basin included with the vanity unit?

Not necessarily. Some 500mm floor-standing vanity units include a compatible basin, while others are cabinet-only or designed for a separately selected worktop and countertop basin. Check the individual product contents before ordering.

  • Does floor-standing furniture need wall fixing?

It may do. Floor-standing means the cabinet is supported by the floor, but many designs still require wall securing for stability. Follow the manufacturer’s installation instructions and confirm that the wall and supplied or selected fixings are suitable.

DESIGNER’S NOTE

Balance the compact 500mm cabinet with a mirror of similar width, keeping surrounding finishes light or restrained so the floor-standing furniture feels substantial without appearing oversized.
