TAILS’ FIXED-HEAD CONNECTION
Position your fixed shower head correctly
Shower arms connect a compatible fixed shower head to a prepared wall or ceiling outlet. Available in different lengths, shapes and finishes, they determine how far the head projects or drops into the showering area. Compare the mounting position, connection size and required reach to choose an arm that supports and places your shower head correctly.
Is a Shower Arm Right for Your Fixed Shower Head?
Check the outlet position, required reach and compatibility with the shower head
Your shower head needs a separate connection
Many fixed shower heads are supplied without an arm and require a compatible wall- or ceiling-mounted connection. Buying the arm separately lets you choose the projection, drop and finish that suit the planned shower position.
You need to position the spray more accurately
The arm length determines where the shower head sits in relation to the wall, ceiling and user. A suitable reach or drop can centre the spray more effectively and keep a broad head clear of tiles, niches and exposed controls.
You want the exposed parts to coordinate
The shower arm remains visible beside the head, making its shape and finish part of the completed shower. Choosing an arm that relates to the head, valve and other exposed fittings creates a more deliberate and commercially complete arrangement.
Your shower uses only a handset
A shower arm is intended to support a fixed shower head rather than a removable handset. A riser rail, handset holder or wall outlet arrangement is more appropriate when adjustable handheld showering is the only required function.
The selected length places the head poorly
An arm that is too short can leave the spray close to the wall, while excessive projection or drop may position the head awkwardly or reduce clearance. Check the complete arm and head dimensions together before purchasing.
The outlet and mounting direction do not match
Wall and ceiling shower arms are designed for different prepared connections and cannot normally be substituted for one another. The mounting direction must correspond with the existing pipe outlet and the intended position of the fixed head.
Shower Arm FAQs
Wall and ceiling mounting, head compatibility and supplied components explained
-
What is the difference between wall and ceiling shower arms?
A wall-mounted arm projects horizontally from a prepared wall outlet, while a ceiling-mounted arm drops vertically from above. Choose according to the existing pipe position and where the fixed shower head needs to sit within the enclosure.
-
Will any fixed shower head fit any shower arm?
No. The connection size, head weight, dimensions and manufacturer requirements must be compatible. Larger fixed heads may require a particular arm length or approved support arrangement, so check both product specifications before ordering.
-
Is the shower head included with the arm?
Usually not unless the listing describes a complete set. Shower-arm products commonly include the arm and a visible wall or ceiling cover, while the fixed head is selected separately.
-
How long should a shower arm be?
Choose a length that positions the head comfortably over the showering area without placing it too close to the wall or unnecessarily low. Consider the enclosure size, ceiling height and dimensions of the selected shower head.
DESIGNER’S NOTE
Match the shower arm closely to the head in shape and finish, then choose a length that places the spray centrally without making the exposed connection look oversized.
