Tails’ Take: Earthy Colour Gives the Fluting Extra Presence

The Scudo Lira 1700 x 750mm matt clay oval freestanding bath takes the collection’s rounded vertical fluting in a warmer, more expressive direction, with the earthy finish producing rich shadow between each sculpted rib. Its slim oval rim and balanced double-ended interior prevent the decorative exterior from feeling overpowering, while the central waste keeps both reclining ends clear; Matt Clay is particularly effective alongside warm stone, dark timber, textured walls and brushed metallic fittings where a conventional white bath would provide less depth.

Is the Matt Clay Lira Right for Your Bathroom?

Consider the surrounding colour scheme, complete footprint and freestanding tap position before installation.

Who Should Buy

Bathrooms Built Around Earthy Tonal Colour

Matt Clay complements terracotta, warm stone, burgundy accents and natural timber without relying on bright white contrast.

Rooms Needing a Strong Sculptural Centrepiece

Deep wraparound fluting creates pronounced texture across the bath’s long sides and softly curved ends.

Bathers Wanting Equal Support at Either End

The symmetrical double-ended bowl and central waste allow either end to be used as the reclining position.

Who Shouldn’t Buy

Schemes Requiring a Neutral White Bath

Matt Clay is intentionally warm and colour-led rather than a subtle variation of white or pale stone.

Bathrooms Planned for Wall or Deck-Mounted Taps

The bath is specified for freestanding taps and cannot be drilled for rim-mounted brassware.

Rooms Without Sufficient Bath and Tap Clearance

The layout must accommodate the 1700 x 750mm bath, surrounding access and a separate floorstanding filler.

Lira Matt Clay Colour, Double-Ended Design and Tap Planning

How different is Matt Clay from the Gloss White Lira?

BATH-017 retains the same fluted 1700 x 750mm Lira shape but replaces the bright reflective surface with a warm, earthy Matt Clay finish. This makes the exterior ribs appear deeper and more tonal, particularly under soft lighting. The Scudo Lira Gloss White Freestanding Bath is available separately as BATH-008 for bathrooms requiring a crisper white centrepiece.

Why does the central waste matter on a double-ended bath?

Positioning the waste centrally keeps it away from both sloping backrests, allowing either end of the bath to be used comfortably. It also maintains the Lira’s visually balanced interior and avoids making one end feel like the designated tap or waste side. The floor waste connection should still be planned around the confirmed central position before the bath is installed.

What should be checked when choosing freestanding taps?

Check that the filler’s spout is high enough to clear the bath rim and reaches far enough into the bowl to direct water cleanly inside. The controls and handset must remain accessible without touching the fluted apron. Because the Lira cannot be drilled for tap holes, the floor connections and final filler position need to be agreed before fitting the bath.
